| Frequently Asked Questions
What are some advantages and disadvantages of your technology?
Our
technology offers many advantages: It permits 'no line of sight' reading. The
tags can be embedded in most materials. It is low cost. Tags can be read
through water, snow, concrete, brick, plastic, wood, and most non-metallic
material. Tags are extremely difficult to duplicate offering a high degree
of security. However because it uses magnetic field coupling it has a
small maximum read range.

What read distance can be achieved with your products?
The
following chart shows actual read distances of our different stock RFID tags,
readers and some custom designs. These were measured in open air without interference.
Depending on your environment, your results may vary.

What is the maximum read distance of your technology?
With our current radio frequency identification technology
(low-frequency, passive) the practical maximum read distance is under 100
cm with a single antenna.

What is 'anti-collision' technology?
This capability
allows the reader to detect and read many tags placed simultaneously in its
read field. Currently, if multiple tags are present, our
reader is unable to appropriately read them. Often, depending on the application,
it is possible to avoid the need for 'anti-collision' by choosing the
appropriate tag and focused reader antenna.

Do you have read/write tags?
Yes! Tags and readers
are now available.

What is the life expectancy of the tags?
Tags
are 'on' only when energized by the reader, and therefore have minimal
degradation. Because our read-only tags do not contain batteries their life expectancy
is unlimited. Our writeable tags require that the data be refreshed at least
every ten years. Their unique serial numbers
are permanent and do not need to be rewritten.
